Hi Sexy!
Sydney -> Port Macquarie, 26th January 2002

Up early (again) today so we could check out of our hostel. Bye bye Sydney, it was nice meeting you! During our time in Sydney, the weather had been pretty grey with almost no sun. But of course, on the day we left, the sun poked its smiling face out of the clouds, at 9am!

We decided to pop by the world famous Bondi Beach on our way out of Sydney. We might even lie in the sun for an hour or too. However, we'd forgotten that today was Australia Day. EVERYONE had decided to go out for the day/weekend. So after pushing through the slow traffic for a while, we settled for a drive by viewing. When we eventually reached Bondi, we drove slowly by, Stinge snatched a photo, then we were on our way again. Never mind, there are 100s more beaches in Oz, including the famous Gold Coast and Byron Bay which we WILL visit.

Our next port of call is, in fact, Byron Bay. We'd decided to break the journey into two and tonight we're going to stop in Port Macquarie. The journey was easy with no hassles. We made a stop at Newcastle for lunch then moved on. We also made a quick stop at a supermarket to stock up and we managed to get hold of some cardboard. You may remember that when we were in New Zealand, some backpackers in a car held up a sign saying 'Hi Sexy' to Emily. We've decided to do a similar thing. We're going to make a collection of signs. Mostly nice ones, we don't want any road rage!

Port Macquarie, AustraliaLate evening we arrived in Port Macquarie and had a look around for somewhere to spend the night. We quickly found an oldish looking motel. It looked pretty, um, basic, but as the price was only $60 (for all 4 of us) we decided to stay there. The room looked REALLY old. The place must have been setup in the 1960s and hasn't changed since. The TV is a real working antique with two huge dials to tune it. The decor is real vintage stuff, lots of brown and gaudy floral patterns. However, it is clean & functional, so it'll do.

The only thing to worry about was an old, sarcastic guy who worked there. He had shaved white hair, missing teeth, one gold tooth and messy clothes. I made the mistake of talking to him and he wouldn't stop with the sarcastic comments. He obviously thinks he's funny.

Just before bed, I sat in the van for about an hour and practised my Didgeridoo. No one can hear me playing in there so I don't need to worry about annoying anyone! I'm making some progress and managed to get some of the basic techniques. Woot!
