Hooray for STA!
Kuta, 11th to 16th March 2002
While we were having a quiet time in Bali, the rest of the world
wasn't having such a peaceful time. I learned by an e-mail from my
parents that BA and Qantas had stopped all flights to India due to
the current dangerous events there. This meant I needed to change my
plans accordingly.
The changes in plan actually tied in well with my planning. I'd been
having difficulty trying to fit a good tour of Asia into the time I
had. But now, I could have up to an extra month in Asia! Perfect!
In order to make the changes to my ticket, I needed to contact the
company I'd booked my ticket with, STA. Luckily, STA has branches
all over the world to give you a hand wherever you are.
Unfortunately, they don’t have a branch in Bali (their Indonesian
branch is in Java). There is an 'associate' in Bali, but the girls
had found them a bit unhelpful. However, they do have a branch in
Singapore, so as I'll be there in a few days, I decided to contact
them by e-mail. I sent an e-mail from Ubud detailing the changes I
wanted.
All I can say, is that once again, STA proved immensely friendly and
helpful. I received a reply the next day asking me to fax a copy of
my ticket through so that they could check if the changes could be
done. However, all the fax machines I could find were either broken
or very expensive. In the end, I scanned my ticket at a Net Cafe and
e-mailed it to them.
Bingo. Again, they replied quickly to say the changes were okay
(I'll explain the changes in a later e-mail), and they'd all been
done. Also, the airlines usually charge if you want to make changes
to your ticket (US$25 in our case) but because this change was being
forced because of BAs actions, I got the change completely free!
Woot!
